Jacquard Dye-Na-Flow Colors

Jacquard’s Dye-Na-Flow is a high concentration acrylic paint for use on natural and synthetic fabrics. This high quality paint can be generally used in any porous or semi-porous surface like silk or wood, giving very nice “true-dye” and permanent results. It is quite easy to spread across fabric materials and let it get absorbed in a coherent way, unlike other similar products that are thick, hard to use, and require multi-hour application.

The Dye-Na-Flow comes in 30 distinct colors and in plastic jars of four different sizes. The color range may not be the largest, but the mix-ability of these colors partially covers that need. The product may be applied with a brush, a sponge, airbrushing, salt technique, spritzing through stencils, sun printing, serti technique, woodstaining, marbling, batik process, and more, so it is quite versatile.

Medium Tips

  • Always work wet to wet with this paint.
  • If you want less vibrant colors, the Dye-Na-Flow can be mixed with water to up to 25% water.
  • Drawing the design with an auto-fade pen onto the fabric beforehand is quite helpful.
  • Sprinkle salt over the fabric while the Dye-Na-Flow is still quite wet to get a beautiful starburst effect.
  • For sunprinting, first wet the fabric, then apply the Dye-Na-Flow, then arrange the cutouts onto the fabric, and then leave the fabric out in the sun for at least an hour.
  • You may heat-set the colors on the fabric with an iron, but don’t use the steaming function.
  • You may hand-wash the fabrics after 20 minutes of the heat set and re-apply for a more brilliant result.
  • You can use the Versatex Dispersant to increase the spreading of the paint on silky materials.

As this product is quite specialized there aren’t many people using it, and from those who do, nobody reports anything negative about it. That makes it obvious that Dye-Na-Flow is a state of the art medium to use on fabrics. It looks like a true fabric dye, but it is comfortable to use and produces vibrant colors. Also, the price is fair for the amount of paint that you get, so there is really nothing more to ask from this product.
